Meet Leila Lopes, Miss Universe 2011

Leila Luliana Da Costa Vieira Lopes, the New Miss Universe, as I am sure the whole universe knows, is from Angola, African country, just around the corner of Mozambique. Leila was born in Benguela, Angola.
Being a business management student in England, Leila was then crowned Miss Angola UK, back in October 2010, which generated a controversy within the Angolan community in the UK, stating that she allegedly was not a resident there.
To be eligible for the Miss Universe beauty pageant, Leila went back to her home country in December, participated and won the title of Miss Angola.
She also won the Miss Angola Photogenic Award in the same event (of course).

Measuring reasonable 1,79m of height (for a model), the 25 year old model, Leila,  assigned to participate in the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant to be held in the past 12 September 2011.
Her victory came as a surprise to many, of course from her colleagues in the pageant. Miss France, also a finalist, came to a French Magazine expressing her great surprise, and disapproval, stating that she probably won because she was in Brazil, that has great relationship and history with Angola (then why didn't Miss Brazil or Miss Portugal win?). And oh, she said the win surprised her (actually she said all the contestants were surprised) and noted that Miss Angola hardly ever wore makeup and she often wore jeans. And she was reserved and lacking in personality.
Here are Miss France’s quotes, as translated. Judge for yourself.
“She was the only girl I didn’t know very well. We didn’t see her much; she was very discreet. She was often in jeans and not wearing makeup. We were all surprised by her win. Many girls made efforts that were not rewarded. I don’t know, something is missing in her temperament. The fact that the competition was held in Brazil surely played a role.”
Envy much?

Isn't she beautiful, gorgeous, spectacular? You name it!

Sadly, at some point, Miss Leila might lose her crown and title due to her problems in the UK. Leila is reportedly being accused of forging papers to participate to the Miss Angola UK (as a resident, which she supposedly wasn't).

That would be really sad, wouldn't it? And the saddest part is that it is the Angolan Community in the UK who is making the fuss in this subject. (no comments)

Being the 4th Miss Universe from Africa, in 60 Years, and also Miss Universe #60, (South Africa, 1978; Namibia, 1992; Botswana, 1999; and Angola, 2011);

Let's cross fingers, shall we? I will keep you posted.

Ciao!
