Designer Spy: Isis Mbaga

Isis Mbaga
Is our very own Mozambican Fashion Designer, has been working in the Fashion Industry since 2005, when even the same industry was almost nonexistent in the country. Also known as a renowned fashion journalist, has launched a book named "Retalhos de Tecido e Arte" (Patchwork of Fabric and Art).

She also works in other areas, namely, production of fashion events, coordination of projects (competitions and exhibitions) workshops, she has participated in five editions of Mozambique Fashion Week, Vocational training for three months in Paris, participation in the biggest African fashion event, the International Festival of African Fashion (Niger-Niamey), among others.

She was one of the few designers invited to participate in this year's Vodacom Mozambique Fashion Week Spring Summer Edition, in July 2011, presenting a simple yet refreshing collection, for this first edition of a S/S themed show. Bodysuits, jackets, jumpsuits, high-waisted dresses, lace, texture and patterns, all in black, yellow and nude, were in the highlights of the night. Her collection, named "Beautiful Imperfection" evokes the evident beauty and the non agressive set of colours merged into vibrant and moving garments, as well as the textures and feel given to the unusual forms of the upper half of the garments.

See more pictures of the show after the jump.

Body suits are finally getting to us Mozzies. and with a touch of colour, why not dare? Love the shoulder detail.

The world has been more than lace-y lover lately, and is there anything sexier than a miniskirt/dress?

A pop of colour to mix up with the nude lace top for this minidress.

Jumpsuits are here to stay, and so are the wild prints!

The V cleavage makes this minidress more than wild, going to the sexy side.

One shoulder dresses are here to stay, and black - is always going to be the new black!

What did you think of Isis's interpretation of the upcoming summer?
Will make sure to schedule an interview with her to post here, in the future. Don't forget, the Mozambique Fashion Week is happening in December this year, and there's plenty of good stuff to see there.

Ciao!
